We are the retained acquisition agent for Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) on the Metrolink extensions to Oldham, Rochdale, Ashton-Under-Lyne and Manchester Airport. Upon completion, the scheme will provide a further 30 miles of new lines within Greater Manchester.
Over 400 properties acquired to facilitate construction
In 2002, we were appointed on behalf of TfGM to acquire over 200 properties to facilitate the construction of the proposed Metrolink extensions. The initial contract was subsequently increased to incorporate a further 200 properties in 2003. This was further expanded in 2005 to take account of the part possession cases, representing an additional 100 claims.
A major project involving multiple disciplines
On behalf of TfGM, we have facilitated negotiations with third parties and their professional advisors and have provided expert witness evidence at Lands Tribunal and Public Inquiry. We have completed business valuations including the assessment of company accounts to calculate business loss.
Reducing costs and meeting strict timetable
James Ogborn, Head of our Planning, Development and Regeneration team in Manchester, said: “This is a complex project having been delivered over many years involving multiple stakeholders. However, throughout the contract, we have met the strict budget and timetable requirements in accordance with the needs of TfGM.”
The type of properties acquired on behalf of TfGM are often managed by us prior to the construction of Metrolink. They range from major industrial works to residential properties.
Manchester’s Second City Crossing
We have recently been appointed to acquire the land and property for Manchester’s Second City Crossing and a new Ground Transport Interchange in Bolton Town Centre, further strengthening our positing in this highly complex sector.
