Acting on behalf of Godwin Developments and Instavolt Ltd, Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH), has helped secure planning permission for North Tyneside’s largest rapid charging electric vehicle (EV) hub.
Situated south of the Holystone Roundabout and adjacent to the A19 highway network, the scheme will feature 30 rapid charging bays and 24 additional parking spaces, nine of which will be accessible. The scheme will also incorporate adrive-through and drive-to store, restrooms, cycle parking, ample native landscaping and dedicated pedestrian access.
The scheme will be operated by InstaVolt Ltd, the UK’s leading provider of rapid charging bays, will be available to users 24/7 and will be powered entirely by 100% certified renewable energy.
The proposed building, which has been designed with sustainability in mind, will feature natural materials, have a glazed frontage to maximise natural light, and offer external and internal seating for customers.
Laura Dixon, director in LSH’s North East and Yorkshire planning team, commented: “Extending the UK’s EV charging infrastructure is vital for both the economy and for meeting sustainability commitments in North Tyneside. We are pleased to have played a role in delivering a scheme that will meet these criteria and bring new jobs and investment to the region”.
Simon Handslip, Managing Director of Commercial Development at Godwin, said: “We're delighted to have secured planning consent to transform this key gateway site into Newcastle's largest EV charging hub. The project aligns with North Tyneside's objectives to lower transport emissions, create jobs, and drive investment in the borough.
With a clear need for rapid EV charging infrastructure in Holystone and nearby areas, this development will be pivotal in advancing the transition to sustainable energy transportation both locally and in the wider North East of England.
On behalf of our team, I’d like to thank Lambert Smith Hampton for their expert support and valuable insight throughout the planning process.”
