The new scheme is found on a 4.2 hectare greenfield site in South Teesside; Redcar lies 3km to the east, and Middlesbrough is situated 10km to the west. The site is accessible from Kirkleatham Roundabout, off the A174 highway. The approval comprises the development of a petrol filling station (PFS), convenience store, restaurant, hot food takeaways, 60 bedroom hotel and associated car parking provision.
In close proximity to the large-scale industrial site at Wilton International, the approval is set to add significant amenities to the area.
Matthew Scrimshaw, Commercial Director at Sembcorp Energy UK, commented:
“We’re delighted that this development has received planning consent and we will now engage with potential occupiers, investors, and developers. The site and the area immediately around it lacks these kind of facilities and this development will be of major benefit to site users and people in the wider area.”
Laura Dixon, Senior Planner at LSH, commented:
“The development will create a much needed service provision along this stretch of the A174, of which there are no alternative PFS service stations nearby. It will also serve as an amenity for the 5,700+ employees and contractors who visit the Wilton International site each weekday.”
